Mayor ISKO urged Manila City Government frontliners, to take precautions against the extreme heat

NEWS ALERT: Amid 41°C heat index, Isko Moreno urges Manila frontliners to hydrate, stay safe Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso on Monday, April 27, urged Manila City Government workers, especially outdoor frontliners, to take precautions against the extreme heat as the heat index in Metro Manila is projected to hit 41 degrees Celsius.

Speaking at the flag-raising ceremony at Manila City Hall, Domagoso said personnel from the Department of Public Services, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, Engineering Department, Estero Rangers, Pasig Rangers, and those deployed along Roxas Boulevard as among the most exposed to the elements.

"Mag-iingat kayo, eh. Lagi niyong iisipin, kailangan niyong pangalagaan din ang inyong sarili," the Mayor told the assembled city workers.

The Mayor also addressed Manila Police District (MPD) chief General Arnold Santiago directly, telling him to remind his officers to stay safe even as they continue their duties in the field.

The heat advisory comes amid an El Niño weather event, which has brought prolonged dry conditions and above-normal temperatures to the Philippines and much of Southeast Asia.

The state weather bureau DOST-PAGASA has projected a heat index of up to 41 degrees Celsius for Metro Manila on Monday, placing it under the "Extreme Caution" category.

Domagoso urged everyone to drink large amounts of water throughout the day, dismissing any hesitation about frequent urination. "Huwag kayong matatakot na ihi kayo nang ihi, basta uminom kayo ng marami," he said.

The Mayor closed his remarks with a note of reassurance, saying cooler weather was on its way. "Ilang araw na lang, darating naman ang Agua de Mayo. Lalamig din ang panahon," he said.
